To identify these signposts the authors used the teacher surveys to identify novels that were commonly taught, then as they read and reread these novels they identified "particular features, features that helped us understand character development, internal conflict, and even theme." Through their investigations and observations Beer & Probst identified that readers were not giving much thought into their reading, they wanted to discover how to get readers noticing, asking questions, interacting, and making connections with the text to gain a deeper understanding of the text. The main focus of this book is that through the use of the signposts and their anchor questions, that the authors created lessons and theories around, it will encourage readers to become active and independent readers. The text uses the strategies of close reading, along with six signposts that help readers become more thoughtful, rigorous readers. The readership of this text is to help teachers develop skills and strategies that they can teach their students how to question and interact with a text, and become more skillful readers. This led the authors to begin researching and developing skills to implement in the classroom to help students become critical, rigorous readers. ![]() Students are either not understanding what they are reading or relying on the teacher to think for them. Start timing your contractions once you feel a few in a row.As labor progresses, your contractions become more frequent and regular, so timing them is a good way to figure out when it’s time to head to the hospital. You should feel it over your entire uterus and possibly into your back. If that happens, your care team might step in and get things going by inducing labor.Ī contraction is a tightening of the uterus that feels like cramping or pressure. Sometimes there are signs that it’s time to deliver your baby before labor starts on its own. If you’re still not sure, just call your care team. Spot the difference with these signs of Braxton Hicks contractions: People call these types of contractions false labor because they can trick you into thinking it’s time when it’s really not. They’re basically warm-ups for childbirth, when your uterus expands and contracts, but you’re not in labor. You might have Braxton Hicks contractions - also called false labor - as your due date approaches. Counting your contractions can help you figure out when it’s really time to go. 12/5/2023 0 Comments Xbox one series x vs series s![]() It is substantially larger than the Xbox One X and Xbox One S systems, but still features a power button and disc drive on the front. The Xbox Series X resembles a tall PC tower. Design Xbox Series X Image used with permission by copyright holder You are able to store Xbox Series X games on a specific external device, giving you a wider array of games to choose from, though be prepared to spend a pretty penny since the official version costs around $220. It’s recommended to wait to purchase external hard drives in the next couple of years so they’re up to par with the requirements of current games. Both consoles support external HDDs as well, but they are not fast enough to run next-generation games. It is a custom 1TB SSD using NVME technology, and it supports proprietary expansion cards. The Xbox Series X also makes use of a solid-state drive. You can also store PS4 games on an external drive, meaning you won’t run out of memory as quickly. As it stands, the stock 825GB of onboard memory might not be enough, especially for those massive install sizes. Following an update shortly after launch, Sony allowed for PS5 games to be stored on an external drive, giving players a convenient way to make the most out of their storage. You are even able to see what rewards you can get for completing possible activities right from the dashboard, with game servers providing this information. This is implemented on a game-by-game basis, of course, but it’s still neat that it’s available at all. You can also load directly into certain modes from the dashboard, hypothetically allowing you to jump right into a multiplayer match with a friend instead of having to navigate all the menus first. If you only want to install the campaign in the latest Call of Duty game, for instance, you can do that and get to playing it much more quickly. The PS5’s SSD also allows it to segment how you install content. It is a custom, superfast 825GB SSD, with a slot for expanding storage via NVME. Sony finally moved away from hard drives in favor of solid-state drives for the PS5. Storage Image used with permission by copyright holder The PS5 has a digital-only option as well. ![]() It’s also important to note that the Xbox Series S system is typically easier to find across various retailers, while the Series X and PS5 are a bit harder to obtain, though supply has improved in recent months. Still, it offers similar functionality as the Series X, minus a disc drive and some horsepower. At $299, the console isn’t nearly as powerful as its more expensive sibling, targeting 1440p gaming rather than 4K. There’s a less expensive console in Microsoft’s lineup, though: Xbox Series S. The Series X supports features like a variable refresh rate, variable rate shading technology, and a low-latency mode, allowing for better responses out of your games. Even a small boost to this is sufficient for modern games. The Xbox Series X has 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, while the Xbox One X uses 12GB of GDDR5 RAM. The Xbox Series X features 12 TFLOPS of power and up to eight times more graphical performance than the Xbox One, and twice as much as the Xbox One X. The discs have a capacity of 100GB - double that of the previous generation. The PS5 also comes with a 4K Blu-ray player, placing it in line with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. The GPU runs at 10.28 TFLOPS with 2.23GHz, which puts it in relative competition with the Xbox Series X GPU. This information comes from an interview that the lead system architect, Mark Cerny, had with Wired. The PS5’s GPU is also from AMD, based on the Radeon Navi line, and it supports the resource-intensive process known as ray tracing. Its CPU is, on paper, slightly less powerful than the Xbox Series X CPU. ![]() This CPU uses 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. He would later disparage the songs of the 1840s, telling Bettine von Arnim in April 1853 that ‘My early songs are mostly too sentimentally bloated and often excessively choked up in the accompaniments’, and he would revise or entirely rewrite many of them. Liszt and Schubert shared a similar urge to revise or recompose prior works, and many of Liszt’s songs exist in multiple versions. According to August Stradal, one of his piano students in the last years, Liszt’s final endeavour was the orchestration of his ballad Die Vätergruft shortly before his death on 31 July 1886. He began delving into the genre by transcribing Schubert’s Lieder as virtuosic solo piano works (one song in 1833, many more in 1835–9), before composing his first song, Angiolin dal biondo crin, in 1839, when he was travelling with his mistress Marie d’Agoult in Italy. From their words he created songs that changed the very definition of the genre, that are a bridge to such later masters as Hugo Wolf, Sergei Rachmaninov and Richard Strauss. A cosmopolitan artist who travelled prodigiously during his years as a virtuoso performer from 1838 to 1847, he chose song texts written both by denizens of Mount Olympus (Goethe, Schiller, Heine, Hugo, Tennyson, Tolstoy, Petrarch) and amateurs, the latter often aristocrats from Liszt’s glittering social circles. A collaborator with some of Europe’s best singers, such as the great French tenor Adolphe Nourrit and the husband–wife duo of Feodor and Rosa von Milde (the first Elsa and Telramund in Wagner’s Lohengrin), Liszt used song as a compositional laboratory in which to experiment with ‘Zukunftsmusik’, or ‘music of the future’, including some of his most finely wrought works. For well over a century, Liszt’s songs were considered insignificant against the vast bulk of his compositions in larger genres, but we know better than that now. ![]() ![]() ‘My orphaned songs’, Franz Liszt once called his repertory of art-songs in six languages (German, French, English, Hungarian, Italian, Russian) when he was expressing the hope that singers might take these works under their wings. ‘If a few singers could be found … who would boldly venture to sing songs by the notorious non-composer Franz Liszt, they would probably find a public for them’ (Franz Liszt) He is accompanied by the curator of the series and Hyperion regular, Julius Drake. As ōdachi became useless, it was often replaced with a tachi and katana. Furthermore, from the Sengoku period in the latter part of the Muromachi period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, as tactics shifted to fighting with yari and tanegashima (guns) by a large group of infantry, ōdachi became even more obsolete. ![]() However, infantry units gradually came to be equipped with yari (spears) in addition to naginata, and because ōdachi was disadvantageous for mountain battles and surprise attacks, and only a few powerful men could use it effectively, this trend ended for a short time. ![]() Large naginata and kanabō were also popular in this period. In the case of ōdachi whose blade was 150 cm (59 in) long, it was impossible to draw a sword from the scabbard on the waist, so people carried it on their back or had their servants carry it. The reason for this is thought to be that the conditions for making a practical large-sized sword were established due to the nationwide spread of strong and sharp swords of the Sōshū school. In the Nanboku-chō period in the 14th century, huge Japanese swords such as ōdachi were at their peak. The Kamakura period was the first time that samurai ruled Japan, and powerful men were valued, and those who wanted to show off the honor of being a warrior preferred to use ōdachi. Until then, they mainly used naginata with a long handle, but they also started to use ōdachi. Until the middle of the Kamakura period, high-ranking samurai mainly fought on horseback with yumi (bows), but as group battles by foot soldiers increased from the late Kamakura period, the importance of weapons possessed by those who did not have horses and did not have sufficient training in bows increased. Ōdachi became popular in Kamakura period (1185-1333). The kanji spelling is an example of jukujikun, applying a semantically based kanji spelling without regard to the usual phonetic values of the characters. The word tachi itself is derived as the stem or noun form of verb tatsu ( 断つ, "to cut off"). The second character in tachi, 刀, is the Chinese character for " blade" (see also dāo), and is also the same character used to spell katana (刀) and the tō in nihontō (日本刀 "Japanese sword"). The character for ō (大) means "big" or "great" no (野) means "field." The dachi here ( 太刀) is simply the voiced compounding version of the term tachi ( 太刀, great sword ), the older style of sword that predates the katana. However, as with most terms in Japanese sword arts, there is no exact definition of the size of an ōdachi. To qualify as an ōdachi, the sword in question would have a blade length of around 3 shaku (90.9 cm (35.8 in)).
